Where were we?

Luke 17:11–19 

Confession 
Leader: Was no one found to praise Holy One?
All: One was found, praising, giving thanks.
Leader: Who was the one found praising Holy One?
All: The one outsider, not one of us.
Leader: Where were we, the ones who belong?
All: Our people took, and turned, and walked away.

Leader: Oh Holy One, our people turned away;
Oh Holy One, and so do we.
We take all you will give
and walk away, no thanks,
no second glance in gratitude.
And you?
You give again, and give again,
second chances from your
broken heart.

Oh, we are sorry, Holy One.
At last we remember and turn
back to you, broken hearts
and promises needing your healing touch.
Help us remember, help us to stay
longer, help us refrain from taking
you for granted.

Assurance of grace 
Hear Holy One’s invitation,
Holy One’s reconciliation,
enter Grace, know healing,
and stay.
