What we seek to gain

1 Tim 6:6–19

there is great gain in godliness
combined with contentment:
to have clothes to cover us
and food to nurture us,
life to live and love to give.

there is great gain in godliness
combined with contentment:
to have money to share,
oh the greedy beware,
it is in God our riches are found.

there is great gain in godliness
combined with contentment:
good to be done, joy
to be won through
generous, gentle love.

there is great gain in godliness
combined with contentment:
to be present this moment,
not reaching always for more,
pursuing the Sacred, who is here, within.

combined with contentment,
there is great gain in godliness,
if you are seeking to be at peace.

Amen

We bring our supplications

1 Tim 2:1–7

There is one God.
There is one Jesus the Christ.
It is right to bring to God
through Christ our redeemer
our supplications, prayers,
our intercessions and thanksgivings.

We pray for those in high places,
who govern to ensure peace
in our land and dignity for all.

We pray for those in low places,
forgotten, overlooked, too often
without dignity or peace.

We pray for those enslaved by
poverty, by captors, by greed
and power, jealousy and fear.

We pray for our own freedom,
limited by the lack of freedom
for so many of our neighbours.

We pray for people of faith, for
disciples and prophets, rabbis
and priests and pastors.
We pray for our teaching and our
learning, that it be true
to Love, faithful to the Divine.

There is one God, who desires
the healing of all that lives. To You
we bring our prayers, our world,
we bring our selves.

Amen.

Gratitude for Mercy

1 Tim 1: 12–17

From God Immortal,
God Invisible, God
the only Divine One
flows mercy, strength,
faith and love.

God shows mercy,
grace and patience
to the faithful, the blasphemer,
the persecutor and the violent;
to the ignorant, the unbelieving,
to the sinner.

Saved by mercy from
ourselves, our ignorant,
violent, blaspheming selves,
we turn, believing,
receiving and rejoicing; we
turn and in our turn
we point to God, faithful
through the ages, source
of mercy, source of grace,
and bow our faces to the ground.

To God Immortal, God
Invisible, God the only
Divine One, be honour,
be glory, always and forever.

Amen.
