Meet Us Where We Are

for 1 Kings 19:1–15a

When we are afraid, O God,
comfort us with your presence.

When we have lost our way, O God,
give us a new direction.

When life feels too hard to face, O God,
be our shelter, our hiding place.

When we must live again, O God,
resurrect our broken spirits
with a great wind, to clear the air,
an earthquake to move our feet,
a fire to spark our zeal,
and with silence, stillness, peace
in your abiding presence.

Amen

Lament from Elijah's story

after 1 Kings 21:1–21a

land trampled
by greed

land stolen
in arrogance

land ravaged
by war

land sinking
out of sight

people trampled
by greed

children stolen
in arrogance

homes ravaged
by war

people sinking
out of sight

hear us, God,
as we cry,
heal us God,
with your light.

Amen.

Asking, receiving, giving

1 Kings 17:8–24

for 5 June 2016

Bring me water,
says the stranger at the gate.

Feed me,
cries the dying man from his bed.

Help me,
pleads the mother for her child.

Help me,
pleads the prophet to his God.

With humility and courage
may we ask for what we need
from the Sacred Source of life,
and from our neighbours.

With generosity and love
may we offer all we have
received from the Sacred Source of life,
to God and to our neighbours.

Amen.
