Philemon 1:1–25
imprisoned, he is free enough
in love to send a plea for welcome
of a brother so become by way
of Jesus’ Way of Love
held captive, he is captivated
by the spirit of a brother bound
a slave and liberated by way
of Jesus’ Way of Love
a prisoner released in hope
and faithful prayer, he writes
with joy, a grateful generous heart
in Jesus’ Way of Love
cut off from all the world he is not
alone in his cell, with workers,
fellow prisoners, with friends to send,
in Jesus’ Way of Love
trapped in ink and pages still
he speaks throughout the ages, not
forgotten, not forgetting, this
our Jesus’ Way of Love
Amen
Love the format of a series of descriptive juxtapositions that tell the story, with repetition of last line as a refrain that ties them all together.
