Matt 1:18–25
this could work well in several voices, and/or with the opening/ closing lines of the stanzas as responsive prayer
God is with us, God is here.
In the unexpected, un-asked for,
inexplicable – the pregnancy,
redundancy, sea-change, change
of plans and planet-wide
climatic devastation: God is
with us. God is here.
God is with us. God is here.
In the shameful, regrettable,
the embarrassing – cheating
discovered, betrayal un-
covered, harsh words, rash acts,
community complacency as ‘little
ones’ suffer; God is with us.
God is here.
God is with us. God is here.
In the families, the friendships,
forging of ties and bonds: relationships
undefinable, labels inescapable,
biology and chemistry and laws
of attraction, convenience, need. In
our togetherness, whatever it is, God is
with us. God is here.
God is with us. God is here.
When we feel all alone, under
siege, unseen, unrecognised. Illness
and injury isolating, age diminishing
our everything we used to be and do.
God is with us. God is here.
God is with us. God is here.
As we dream and touch
the Sacred Mystery; as we dream
and reach for the best of humanity:
God is with us. God is here.
Amen.
